Fixed Prosthetics

Our philosophy on crown and bridge dentistry is to deliver restorations whose life is measured in decades. We work closely with a local dental lab who hand-fabricates each restoration ensuring sealed crowns that are durable and look fantastic

Materials

We offer three types of materials in our crown and bridge work, with a goal of using materials that will last decades.

Ceramics

The newest tooth-colored restorative material is ceramic which can give a life-like appearance and translucency. This material works well for both the back and front of the mouth. If a more lifelike appearance is desired to match other front teeth, porcelain can be added to the ceramic base to give more characterization and match neighboring teeth. Our ceramic restorations are pressed restorations, which produces a slightly higher strength.

Porcelain fused to metal

These days ceramic restorations are fitting into the use that PFM restorations once occupied well, but they are still sometimes superior. Our restorations are porcelain layered on a cast white gold base. Often for bridges, this is still our material of choice, due to its durability. We are still seeing these come back after decades doing well.

Gold

We still do quite a bit of gold restorations because they are very well-sealed and often last the longest of any of the options. They are also the most conservative on tooth structure. The only downside to gold crowns is that they look like gold, which wasn’t always a minus. For teeth in the back, we still find that gold is the most durable and lasting choice.
